Located at the top of Las Arenas, Abrassame is without doubt one of the most interesting gastronomic options in the shopping centre that occupies what was once the old bullring. More than 30 years ago, Joan Manubens opened, encouraged by his brother Pep, a simple restaurant at the end of a narrow corridor of a building in Pla de Palau. The restaurant's name was his way to say thanks for the help, and this is how Passadís de Pep was born. Today the place is one of the most emblematic restaurants in the city that has maintained its reputation over the decades due to the quality of the products it serves and the service it offers.
With a relaxed and pleasant atmospehre, the restaurant welcomes us between stone walls covered with paintings by recognized painters and has several spaces, so that is ideal for quiet couple dinners but also for groups and celebrations. Passadís del Pep has no menu but daily suggestions made daily with the freshest products. It is advisable to let them decide your menu (70-90€), it will definitely be a great success.

No menu at Passadís del Pep but everyday a new selection of beautifully presented dishes, mostly seafood, certainly the best ones in Barcelona!! Whatever is most fresh that day is what you get.
Last time we were there, we had something like 7 or 8 dishes: clams, few kind of prawns, gambas, sea snail, squid, fried and crispy anchovies.. That is before to have to choose the mean dish: “carne o pescado”?? Take a fish this is the place for. We forgot to tell you that usually you will drink Cava (the local Champagne).. A lot of Cava..
The place is known to be really hard to find – down a tiny passageway (a passadis) – but it’s part of the pleasure to finally find a great “table”.. Hope you’ll find it! Reservations required.

“You never see a menu and never have to make a decision” at this “cozy” unmarked Born-Rivera “gem” where the staff “keeps bringing more and more” “simply sublime”, “authentic” Mediterranean seafood by chef-owner Joan Manubens; sure, it’s a costly outing, but since a bottle of cava comes with every meal, it’s easy to “walk out just wrecked, and loving every minute of it.”

Housed within the Pla de Palau, Passadis del Pep flaunts artistic interiors—paintings by Spanish artistes adorn the walls, and the tables are neatly decorated with fine cutlery, flowers and white linen. Moreover, the restaurant proudly maintains a "no menu card" status—waiters will verbally guide you through the day's specialties and recommend top favorites. So if you don't want to go through the boring ordeal of scanning a card before making up your mind, Passadis offers a better option.

With a privileged location in front of the sea, in an area where what we find most are beach bars, Agua impresses us thanks to a wonderful terrace -open in summer- with views to the sea, actually one of the most acclaimed in the area.
It is also well-know because of the quiet and cosy atmosphere and the excellent Mediterranean cuisine and the fantastic fish dishes they prepare. Full of natural light and with a Mediterranean touch, the simple decor is really cosy, with colonial style furniture and warm colours that make of this place a the perfect scenario for any kind of occasion: from couples and groups to business dinners.
The cuisine we are offered here has fish as the main ingredient and is fresh and simple. In the menu we find a large variety of dishes, from "montaditos" and salads to pasta and rice dishes. The wine list includes about fifty labels.

Splendid location with a terrace on the beach not far from the Arts hotel. Agua is part of the successful Tragaluz chain, synonymous of quality.
It offers Mediterranean seafood at its best, specializing in steamed mussels, Norway lobsters au gratin, grilled turbot with noodles cut from squid, a thick steak with red wine gravy, salmon tartare with leeks... Try absolutly the arroces al carbon. As price is very right for the place and the dishes, we recommend you to book...

With views through gnarled and ancient olive trees over the beach into the Mediterranean, this sleek spot hidden "under the boardwalk" near Frank Gehry's gleaming goldfish may not be classical Barceloneta in decor or cuisine, but it's an exciting place to dine. Hit the terrace on warm summer nights or sunny winter days, or just catch rays inside the immense bay windows. Seafood is the main draw and value on the menu here, but risottos, beef, and lamb are also equally available. Expect action, bustle, streamlined design surroundings, beautiful people, and acceptable-if-not-spectacular fare at this very popular tourist favorite. Be sure to reserve in advance.

It bustles, it's hip, and it serves well-prepared fish and shellfish in a hyper-modern setting overlooking the Vila Olímpica beach. A terrace beckons, but if a chilly wind is blowing, retreat into the big-windowed blue-and-yellow dining room and order heaped portions of meats and fish to be grilled over an open fire. Favorite choices include pollo (chicken), pez espada (swordfish), gambas (prawns), and an especially succulent version of calamares rellenos (stuffed squid). They are served with as little culinary fanfare and as few sauces as possible, allowing the freshness and flavor of the ingredients to shine through. Risottos, some studded with fresh almejas (clams) and herbs, are usually winners, with vegetarian versions. The only problem here is popularity; make sure you book on the weekends.

Placed in a building that dates from the second half of the 19th century built at the request of the richest Catalan at the time, 7 Portes is probably the most emblematic restaurant in Barcelona. Its seven characteristic doors ("portes" in Catalan) have gone down in history and have represented, for 175 years, one of the greatest restaurants in the city.
Although some say it's not what it was anymore, the restaurant is still unique and the history hidden between its walls is worth a visit.
Run by the Parellada family since the forties, 7 Portes presents a large Catalan-rooted menu with special attention to rice dishes and offers kitchen service all day long.
The different rooms that make up the place will welcome us with an elegant, sober decor that evokes the 19th century high society atmosphere.

Originally called "Cafè de les 7 Portes", this establishment opened in 1836. Today is the most classic of Barcelona's eating-places.
This is certainly the city's most famous paella, which is always perfect. Try also seafood and rice dishes prepared in traditional way like Fideuà with prawns, Barcelona rice with ham and cheese, assorted grilled inshore fish or the Zarzuela with lobster... Very large place but regularly full.

A “legendary” “institution” (founded in 1836), this “expensive” Ciutat Vella Catalan voted Most Popular in Barcelona “still delivers” “traditional, well-prepared” classics including “delicious” paella in a setting “decorated to evoke nostalgia”; “professional” service “matches” the price, so though it’s always “full of tourists”, even those who find the food “average” say it’s a “pleasure to visit.”

Frommer's
Festive and elegant, 7 Portes has been around since 1836, making it one of the oldest and most prestigious restaurants in Barcelona. While these days it's more touristy than aristocratic, there is still enough authentic charm left in the decor (and patrons) to make it worth the visit. The white-aproned staff serve regional dishes, including fresh herring with onions and potatoes, daily paellas (with shellfish or rabbit), and a wide array of fresh fish, expertly fileted at the table. Order succulent oysters or an herb-laden stew of black beans with pork or white beans with sausage, which come in enormous portions. The restaurant's name means "Seven Doors," and it does indeed have seven doors, underneath charming porticoes typical of this portside pocket of Barcelona.

The multi-layered mix of clients makes this bustling place really vibrant. The seven dining rooms are decorated in a pleasingly traditional style, with tiled floors, dark wooden beams and walls adorned with posters and caricatures from the past. The service is perfect, all serving in an expert manner

7 Portes is one of the oldest and most well-reputed restaurants in Barcelona. It's been running for over 150 years and is highly recommended. It serves traditional Catalan cuisine, with a few good ideas from Cantabria and Galicia thrown in. Try the Mixed Steamed Vegetables or Butifarra Amb Mongetes (sausage with beans). Follow that with one of their famous rice dishes, such as Arròs A Banda (like a two-course paella) or Arròs Negre (rice cooked in squid's ink).

Spotted by Locals
7 Portes (7 Doors) has been in business, first as a café, and since 1929 as a restaurant, for 175 years. In 2011 the restaurant celebrated this achievement by commissioning Milton Glaser, the well-known graphic designer who devised the I Love NY logo, and who is a frequent customer, to re-design the labels of its house wines and cava.
In addition Vinçon (See the Vinçon article), the design-lifestyle store, staged an exhibition of the designs and preparatory drawings and sketches.
What do Woody Allen, Lou Reed, Che Guevara, the King of Spain, John Wayne, Ava Gardner, Catherine Deneuve, Pelé, Miró, Antonio Banderas, Harrison Ford, Mikhail Gorbachev, Martin & Donna Towell, Bo Derek and myself all have in common? We’ve all dined here, and we all enjoyed the experience.
So, what makes this spot so special? The food – rich and incredibly tasty paellas and arrossos (rice dishes), fantastic seafood and traditional meat dishes. The art – paintings, lithographs, photographs, drawings and sculpture by some of the 20th century’s best-known artists. The ambiance – the classically tiled, wood panelled and mirrored rooms hum with the sounds of happy eating merged with the tuneful tinkling of a live pianist (after 10pm) as the experienced staff seemingly glide between tables.
It’s not cheap – but compared with restaurants of a similar reputation – it’s not expensive.
If you enjoy paella try their legendary Paella Parellada, with skinless, boneless chicken, pork, fish, prawns, mussels and clams and other seafood.
You’ll need a reservation, otherwise expect at least a half-hour wait.

The eponymous seven doors open on to as many dining salons, all kitted out in elegant 19th-century décor. Long-aproned waiters bring regional dishes, served in vast portions, including a stewy fish zarzuela with half a lobster, a different paella daily (shellfish, for example, or rabbit and snails), a wide array of fresh seafood, and heavier dishes such as herbed black-bean stew with pork sausage, and orujo sorbet to finish. Reservations are available only for certain tables; otherwise, get there early.

With over one hundred years of history, Els Pescadors was born as a fishermen’s tavern to become one of the oldest and most prestigious restaurants, not only in Poblenou but also in Barcelona, specializing in fish and rice dishes.
The old dining room at the entrance, with the old bar and the marble tables, is a true witness of the establishment’s past, while the other two dining rooms prove that tradition and modernity are compatible.
The menu -prepared with fresh and well-selected products of impeccable quality -, is on the one hand, faithful to the purest tradition, but it has adapted to the new cooking techniques and also offers more contemporary dishes. The house’s specialties are definitely the fresh fish brought daily from the market and the rice dishes.
Under the shadow of the old trees of the peaceful Plaça Prim, the restaurant's terrace is also a great option during the spring and summer season.

We believe that " Els Pescadors" is one of the finest fish restaurants in Barcelona. Located quite far from the center, in Poble Nou, it's worth go there.
First for the place on a little square with trees, very pleasant. Then for the dishes, mostly fishes, every plate is a delight try: calamares, gambas, arroz, Suquet dels pescadors, Angler fish fricandó, Tuna with pickled Figueres onions, Hake with romesco bread and leek mousseline sauce...
A great contemporary cooking.. Perfect to invite your best friends.

This is acknowledged to be one of the best fish restaurants in Barcelona. The fact that it's located slightly out of the main drag, in the working-class beachside suburb of Poble Nou, should not stop you making the trip. The restaurant is divided into two ambientes: One is old-school -- with marble tabletops and wooden beams -- while the other is modern Mediterranean. But no one comes to gawk at the surroundings. The sole objective is to enjoy the freshest seafood in Barcelona, cooked in classical ways with surprising touches. Local gambas (prawns) are served with steaming garbanzos (chickpeas), or a baked (al horno) fish, such as lubina (sea bass) or dorada (bream) -- whatever has been trawled that day.

Nile Guide
This established seafood restaurant in the Poble Nou district has preserved much of its old-fashioned charm. It serves market—fresh cuisine with flair and creativity. You can choose from three different types of bread available here. As its name, Els Pescadors (the fishermen) suggests, you should stick with the delicious fish and shellfish dishes that range from simple steamed mussels or cockles to an elaborate cod salad with puff pastry. There are good white wines to choose from. You'll sit at an old marble-topped table surrounded by antiques and a few timely reminders that you're next to a modern Olympic Village.

Time Out
This was an old bar in the port district of Taulat that members of Els Joglars actors’ troupe bought and cleaned up some 40 years ago. Then Josep Maulini and his wife purchased it, and turned it into the lovely spot it is today. It still has the air of a small-town bar, with its antique furniture that has been combined with modern decor. One delicious recommendation: grilled sardines in sauce, though they don’t always have them. Rice dishes are a staple on the menu, and they never disappoint.

The passion for fish and the coolest and most elegant New York style atmosphere have culminated in the creation of Big Fish, a restaurant born out of a long family tradition that began in the Galvany market, in uptown Barcelona, with a stall that, after four generations, still offers the freshest fish.
Joan and Gemma, the current owners of the business –who already have a restaurant near the market-, opened in February 2009 a restaurant at the heart of El Born where they prove, day after day, their respect for the products they deal with.
The restaurant turns out to be a special place, a stylish and modern space, where the white walls live in perfect harmony with the wooden tables and the leather sofas. The mirrors and huge windows facing El Born market help to create a really nice atmosphere, perfect for a lunch, dinner and even a drink, since on weekends the place works as a bar until 3am.
The offer at Big Fish is based strictly on wild fish and it is cooked in different ways (oven-baked, grilled, steamed...), including the Japanese version. In fact, sushi is prepared in front of the guests and is served all day long.
Big Fish joins the offer of the most cosmopolitan district in Barcelona as a new gastronomic phenomenon to which we predict a promising future.

Fodors
Hidden away behind the immense steel hangar of the Born market, this ample, handsomely designed and decorated space has an intimate feel and an old world, semi-colonial air with a slight swashbuckle. Fish and seafood, not surprisingly, dominate the menu here, with some Japanese touches in the preparations. Owners Joan Soler and Gemma Madir also have a fish market in the upscale Galvany market in Sant Gervasi. The uptown branch of Big Fish at Carrer Amigó 39 is equally recomendable.

Frommer's
This spacious, high-ceilinged addition to the Born's array of chic eating spots is one of the best new seafood restaurants in town. It was designed by Lazaro Rosa Violán, who created the Market Hotel. The decor is offbeat, with small tables, polished wood floorboards, and bright white walls and pillars. The food is supreme: An inventive blend of Mediterranean and Atlantic catches with Japanese minimalism. Outstanding are the veieras gallegas a la plancha (Galician scallops cooked on a hotplate), gambas de Palamós (prawns from Palamós), and lubina a la brasa con mermelada de tomates y esparragos (charcoal-grilled sea bass with tomato and asparagus jam). For dessert try the white chocolate brownie or bite into a dainty Tokyo-style kudamono fruit dish. There's a non-stop sushi bar and cocktail area that stays open until 3am.

60 x 80
At a first glance, Big Fish looks like yet another formula-driven place – a formula that includes a delightful interior by Lazaro Rosa-Violán, sushi and, sure enough, cocktails – but, as the name allures to, the fish is what really sets it apart. Would you expect anything less from an owner who’s a professional fishmonger? The brainchild of Joan Soler, who already combines the selling of fish with the sampling of fishy dishes at his shop across from Mercat Galvany in Sant Gervasi, it’s cocktails and sushi, alright, but also more traditional dishes with the focus firmly set on the quality of the raw materials.

Secrets of Barcelona
One of the surprises when walking through Born is to discover truly authentic wonders as Big Fish. Being the first design fish shop in Barcelona, the concept is something fresh and new; here you can buy fish, listen to jazz music and drink a glass of wine while the sushi man is making sushi to take away.
In charge of Big Fish is a family with a great passion for fish. All that expertise to the restaurant has made it one of the best in Barcelona when it comes to quality taste of fresh fish (not to mention the lovely décor, designed by the talented Lazaro Rosa-Violán). Cooked with Mediterranean recipes, you can request an incredible steamed hake, prawns from Palamos or grilled sea bass as you relax on the Chester sofas presiding over the beautiful dining room.
* The place is not very big, so we recommend you to book a table if you don't want to wait way too long.

Expat Chef in Barcelona
Tucked in a side street next to La Estacion de Francia, you would pass by this place and not even give it a second thought.  A very good friend of mine, whom I trust completely when it comes to food and restaurants, told me that this was a pretty spectacular place.
If you like cod, this is the place to go.  Barcelona is a city that adores its cod.  You can find it in so many different ways, from fritters to salads, to croquetas and then more than 20 main dishes.  Stuffed with foie, “a la llauna” which loosely translates in the can, but that just means it’s braised in sauce in an earthenware dish, al pil pil….the list goes on. La Estrella had about 6 different dishes paying homage to this humble yet delicious fish.
This is an absolute “must go” restaurant in Barcelona. Service, food and wine all impeccable.  Go with an empty stomach, you won’t want to leave a thing on your plate!

Barcelona-metropolitan
This family business has gone through many faces: it was once a bakery, then it became an inn. But when Jordi and his wife Pepi took over they turned it into a restaurant that delicately balances the demands of both traditional and modern tastes.
For instance, our starter of prawn salad may not sound particularly traditionally Catalan—and it wasn’t. It had a good mix of leaves, from radicchio to rocket via lollos and lamb’s lettuce. There wasn’t a shredded carrot or hard-boiled egg in sight. Still, the concept is traditional as a standard modern bistro staple.
But Pepi, who’s in charge of the cooking, seems to be a woman who likes to do things differently. In this case, ‘differently’ means the addition of tendrils of deep-fried ‘sea spaghetti’. This added a welcome dash of salty savouriness, but the seaweed’s glutinous qualities meant their initial crisp crunch gave way to a tooth-clogging chewiness. Those with dentures may be advised to stick to the plump and tender prawns.
The salad had been one of the ‘specials’ that Jordi ‘sings’ (as they say in Spanish) to the customers at the table. His explanations are so intricate and appetite-whetting they leave diners drooling but dithering over what to order. The extra dishes add needed variety to the regular menu, which is heavy on the bacalao. There’s cod with honey, samfaina, mushrooms… you name it. If you’re a cod-lover, La Estrella’s reputation makes ordering it here a safe bet.
You need to watch out when dining at La Estrella: their dishes do lean towards the rich and filling, and you really want to leave room for pudding. If you’re at all of a limited appetite it might be best to stick to salad so you can manage their tiramisu or their ‘six textures of chocolate’, both of which are infamous among Barcelona’s dessert aficionados. The chocolate coulant and tarte tatin also have their fans. But what has really got the gourmets talking is Pepi’s range of homemade ice creams and sorbets, with radical flavours such as wasabi, goat’s cheese, violets or cactus.
La Estrella’s position, tucked away behind Passeig de Colom, has the air of a well-kept secret. And the secret of its success is respect: Jordi is attentive and respectful to all and exudes a passion for his job that’s infectious. Pepi shows great respect for her ingredients, and the prices are respectful of the customer’s pocket.

Suquet de l'Almirall is a landmark in La Barceloneta and one of the main attractions on the famous Passeig Joan de Borbó. Quim Marquès, following his family tradition, opened its doors in 1996 and since then has grown to become one of the best restaurants in Barcelona when it comes to fish and seafood.
The restaurant presents a menu that combines traditiona and modernity in perfect balance. Products are top quality and fresh and cooked with respect, and that is obvious in the final result. Rice and noodle dishes, fish and other specialities can be enjoyed a la carte or with any of the three set menus from 30 euros.
The restaurant has a terrace outside on the street and boasts a well selected wine cellar.

On the main artery leading out to Barceloneta beach, this “quiet” Mediterranean is a cut above its neighbors with its “well-prepared fish” and “wonderful ambiance”; coveted seating on the terrace where it’s “especially” nice “on a sunny day” is another plus as are “accessible” prices; P.S. reservations strongly recommended.

With a handy terrace for alfresco dining in summer, "The Admiral's Fish Stew" indeed serves fare fit for the highest rank. The jaunty striped awning and sunny yellow walls give it a maritime feel. Specialists in rice dishes and caldoso de bogavante, an abundantly brothy rice dish with lobster, say this is one of Barceloneta's best.
