Small in size but very big in essence, Etapes is one of those restaurants that are really worth knowing. The secret of its success: high level cuisine at moderate prices. The kitchen team works with the best products to offer excellent cuisine based on the Mediterranean tradition.

Etapes restaurant is located near the Plaza Universidad of Barcelona, in the district of Eixample Esquerra. This is one of the gastronomic discoveries in the neighborhood as it combines an excellent menu of fresh, high quality dishes with an affordable price, all topped by a friendly and welcoming customer service.
Chef recommends as a starter the hut salad with blue cheese, muscat jelly, 'garrapinyats' Riesling vinaigrette. Then, the tuna steak with honey, soy and sesame served with salad exotic. To give the final touch of 'fancy', you can enjoy a delicious tiramisu 'stage' of coffee from Peru.
The Etapes gives special attention to quality and environmentally friendly produce. This is also reflected in the atmosphere.

Between the stone walls and arcades of an old 17th century stable we find Arcano, a very special restaurant that boasts a privileged location between Barcelona’s Cathedral and the Picasso Museum, right next to Santa Caterina market.
Arcano is a really warm space that plays with faint light and other tasteful details in order to create a nice and cosy, young and informal atmosphere. The restaurant has a charming private room in the wine cellar where we will enjoy our celebrations with more intimacy.
The cuisine blends the Argentienean gastronomy with the Catalan and Mediterranean tradition. The menu, thus, includes delicious salads, homemade pasta and ‘empanadas’ and specialities like josper grilled vegetables, meats (from Argentina, Galicia and Girona) and fish. Besides, the bar area invites us to enjoy excellent tapas.

Founded in 1920 and still with the original modernist decor from the beginning of last century, El Gran Café is probably the most impressive and attractive café in Barcelona.
Located in the Gothic Quarter, the setting attracts mostly tourists that, in this perfect scenario, seize the opportunity to try the most typical Catalan food -which by the way is not as good as the whole setting but still far more than acceptable. In the menu we will find dishes such as the beef entrecôte, the Segovia style lamb, the tuna tataki, the duck confit and some rice dishes.
The set lunch menú is, with no doubt, a good option. The cellar includes a hundred national wines. The restaurant counts, as well, with different private rooms for group dinners. The most quiet and intimate tables are those on the top floor. There's live piano music at night.

Located in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, Agut is a classic in the city. Founded in 1924 by Agustí Agut and his wife, the restaurant has survived the passing of time and, in spite of its remodelling in 2001, the soul of the typical Catalan tavern it used to be still remains.
The restaurant, that boasts a classic decor and an impressive collection of paintings on its walls that give it a strong personality, welcomes us in a traditional and very cosy atmosphere, perfect for family or business meetings. Since its foundation, more than eight decades ago, Agut offers traditional Catalan cuisine cooked with the best market produce. Agut -that takes us back to the past for a while- is definitely a must in the city centre.
Barcelona.com
Property of the Agut family since 1924, this restaurant is a Barcelona institution. In large vaulted cellars, travel on time to enjoy a typical market cuisine. We love the fideua, the Bouillabaisse, cod with aioli, seafood and seasonal dishes like the "soufflé of monkfish with shrimp"…
Note an excellent noon menu at only 12€.
Fodors
Wainscoting and 1950s canvases are the background for the mostly Catalan crowd in this homey restaurant in the lower reaches of the Gothic Quarter. Agut was founded in 1924, and its popularity has never waned—after all, hearty Catalan fare at a fantastic value is always in demand. In season (September-May), try the pato silvestre agridulce (sweet-and-sour wild duck). There's a good selection of wine, but no frills such as coffee or liqueur.
Frommer's
In an historic building three blocks from the harborfront, Agut epitomizes the bohemian atmosphere surrounding this gritty area. For three-quarters of a century this has been a family-run business, with María Agut García now at the helm. The aura evokes the 1950s, and the inventive dishes are served at reasonable prices. Begin with mil hojas de botifarra amb zets (layers of pastry filled with Catalan sausage and mushrooms) or the terrine de albergines amb fortmage de cabra (terrine of eggplant/aubergine with goat's cheese gratinée). One of my favorite dishes is soufle de rape amb gambes (soufflé of monkfish with shrimp). If you are ravenous, attempt the chuletón de buey (loin of ox) for two, which comes thick and juicy and accompanied by fresh vegetables. For dessert, order sortido for an assortment of dainty cakes made in-house.

In a historic building in the Barri Gòtic, 3 blocks from the harborfront, Agut epitomizes the bohemian atmosphere surrounding this gritty area. For three-quarters of a century, this has been a family-run business, with María Agut García the current reigning empress. (Don't confuse Agut with the more famous Agut d'Avignon nearby.) The aura evokes the 1940s and 1950s, and the inventive array of restaurant dishes is served at moderate prices. Begin with mil hojas de botifarra amb zets (layers of pastry filled with Catalan sausage and mushrooms) or the terrine de albergines amb fortmage de cabra (terrine of eggplant with goat cheese gratinée). Modern Barcelona restaurants have a tendency to pay more attention to the interior design than the food. However, just as Catalans focus on business when they’re doing business, this family-run restaurant likes to focus on the main event – the food. Interiors here are kept simple with modern touches at a minimum, and if you’re curious to explore traditional Catalan fare beyond butifarra and pan tomaquet, then this is an excellent introduction. For the less adventurous, the monkfish and shrimp soufflé is a sure-fire winner.
Time Out

The restaurant is elegant and offers different spaces and private rooms with different capacities, ideal for either a business meeting, a family celebration or a more intimate dinner.

Located just below Via Augusta, Silvestre's series of intimate dining rooms and cozy corners are carefully tended by chef Guillermo (Willy) Casañé and his charming wife Marta Cabot, a fluent English-speaking maître d' and partner. Look for fresh market produce lovingly prepared in dishes such as tuna tartare, noodles and shrimp, or wood pigeon with duck liver. Willy's semi-secret list of house wines is always surprising for its quality and value.

This busy eating house is frequented by the bold and the beautiful. With emphasis on quality, it serves pastas, salads, paella, seafood and meat dishes. In an old house located in Poblenou is Racó de la Vila, a restaurant that for over two decades –it was founded in 1988- welcomes its guests in a rustic, traditional atmosphere very close to Vila Olímpica.
The quality of the ingredients is the starting point of the restaurant's seasonal cuisine, that has clear Catalan and Mediterranean roots. The menu features fresh fish and game season meat, as well as rice dishes and traditional stews.
The restaurant is divided into different rooms -one of them with a wooden door original from the 18th century--, so it is perfect for family celebrations. Besides, it offers an extensive wine cellar and valet parking.

Founed in 1998 by Glòria Blanco and managed by her son, David Vida, La Camarga is a sober restaurant that pays the utmost attention to detail and offers season Mediterranean detail.
The specialty of the house is rice, prepared with the right dose of sophistication and mastery. The menu invites us to taste an exquisite variety of seasonal products at affordable prices in the shape of creative dishes, elaborated with meticulous dedication and carefully served, in a select and comfortable atmosphere.
Besides the menu, which is updated four times a year, La Camarga offers eight set menus for groups and a selection of wines that includes over eighty labels.
Michelin
It has a small bar and a spacious main dining room, with parquet flooring, wicker furniture and a few long benches. Market-fresh menu at moderate prices.

Like some suspicion with your soup? A bit of intrigue with your entrées? Or, would you prefer some suspense with your supper?
La Camarga is currently in the news … not for its food and ambience, but because it hosted a dinner with the leader of the regional Partido Popular (currently top dogs in Madrid) and the former girlfriend of a prominent Catalan politician. Their conversation was recorded for a private detective agency commissioned by the Socialist opposition via microphones hidden among flowers on the table. Bribes, corruption, money laundering…the whole nine yards. It transpired that the owner of the detective agency is a regular customer and a good friend of the owner. Favoured by politicians, their aides and crooked paymasters, La Camarga offers discerning diners discreet (though, obviously, not very private) dining rooms....More on this here >>
The food here is pretty good and, compared with similar establishments in other capital cities, offers exceptional value. The last time I ate here I was served 12 starters, including gazpacho, mini spring rolls, bean salad, croquettes, mini barbecue ribs, and cuttlefish, served with two different wines. For a main course I had roast leg of lamb with a bitter orange confit accompanied with a Bierzo, while my partner enjoyed fillet mignon with tortilla. We were then served two exceptionally tasty desserts. All good stuff. Service is good, if formal. If you’re wanting to push the boat out while you’re here you could do a lot worse. Just keep in mind who could be listening.
