If there is one thing that Grup Travi is expert at it is finding the perfect spot to place its restaurants. The best proof of that is El Xalet, located on top of the Montjuïc hill. Its location and its characteristics make it a unique place, suitable for the most special occasions.
Opened in 2005 and decorated by Estrella Salietti, the elegant restaurant is spread out over three levels. The one upper one has a bar, a cosy dining room and a wonderful terrace. The level in the middle welcomes us in a large panoramic terrace, while the last one is a large space, perfect for banquets and celebrations, with a revolving platform that allows all guests enjoy Barcelona in 360º. The stunning views that offer each one of the exquisite spaces of the restaurant are definitely the best setting for a perfect dinner.
On the other hand, the restaurant’s menu presents excellent signature Mediterranean and Catalan cuisine, with the highest respect to the products and the traditional flavours.
"Up Montjuic hill, just next door to the spectacular Olympic pool where Kylie Minogue used to shoot her video clips, one of the most beautiful views of Barcelona.
Unfortunately chef and service of El Xalet do not fly that high. We had carpaccio of Bacall "no taste" ( 7 € ), Xupa-Xups de Foie "no fun" ( 17 € ), lobster "hard to eat" in its small plate ( 22 € ), Paella de Bacalla with beans "no big deal" ( 15 € ) Apple pie "not cooked" ( 9 € ).. Everything served by very awkward "waitresses" in spite of a posted goodwill.
Our advice: go there, book a table on the open space terrace, order the less expensive things and enjoy the great sights. The chart of the wines is perfect and the valet parking is a genius. LK

On the side of Montjuïc hill, with spectacular views over the city. This restaurant is spread over three floors, although the best places to sit are the top floor or the pleasant terraces. Traditional cuisine with some contemporary touches.
