With a Basque name that gives us a clue of the origin of the family that owns it, Kaiku goes quite unnoticed in an area so crammed with restaurants as La Barceloneta. Those who know how wonderful it cuisine is are really a few, which is an advantage for the regulars and makes up for the fact that it's only open at lunch time (it only opens at night for groups of 15 people at least, previous reservation).
The menu at Kaiku, though a bit short, is more than enough and presents Mediterranean dishes with the chef's personal touch to them. Rice and fish dishes are especially recommended.
There is nothing special about the restaurant itself, but enjoying a lunch at the terrace on a sunny day is really delightful.

Barcelona Metropolitan
...Nearby there’s Kaiku, which is practically an icon by now thanks to carefully crafted, top-notch cooking, and a great value daytime menu. Chef Hugo is a creative sort and so it’s impossible to get anything bog standard there, which is of course a good thing, except that generally, though not always, when I’m in the market for paella I’m after something a bit more traditional. Their smoked rice creation with artichokes and wild mushrooms, wonderful as it is, is something I want a couple of times a year not every Sunday...

Fodors
You could easily pass by this undistinguished-looking little dining room on the edge of the beach at the end of Passeig Joan de Borbó. But seeking it out is worth your while; the seafood here is excellent and the value is ironclad. Rice dishes, mussels, sea anemones, fish soup are all hearty. Try the arròs del xef, a smoky rice with calamari, asparagus, and wild mushrooms. The wine list has some surprising choices at reasonable prices.

Restalo.uk
Kaiku Restaurant is a restaurant with Mediterranean cuisine. The decoration is very simple, looks like bar in the beach,  with paper tablecloths, but this is a place to recommend due to their good cuisine. The menu is short and the dishes well prepare. The terrace faces the sea and it is a real privilege.

Time Out
Good food and atmosphere. The best tables are on the terrace, with the sea spread out before you. It’s well worth trying their arròs fumat.
