El Quim de la Boqueria is truly a family business: mom, dad and son serve traditional catalan dishes around the bar when there is space. Even the regulars have to wait for a place to sit, as El Quim is a stall in the most beautiful and bustling market in Barcelona: the Boqueria market.
Boquerones, chipirones, arroz negro.. From 3€ to 9€... Best tapas around.. If there is no table for you, go to Pinotxo another tapas bar in the same Boqueria market.

Barcelona Metropolitan
For a proper sit-down breakfast or lunch look no further than the chef’s favourite, El Quim de la Boqueria. He boasts more than 50 regular dishes (a number set to increase now that his 19-year-old son has joined the ranks behind the stoves), all of it honest-to-goodness scran. Describing himself and his team as "defenders of the egg", try his huevos estrellados con chipirones (broken eggs with baby squid) or his signature dish: five different kinds of mushrooms cooked with confit onions and port and topped with a fried egg and a caramelised slab of duck liver. It all goes perfectly with a crisp, cool glass of cava.  (June 15, 2012)

Barcelona Life
The Boqueria market is one of Barcelona's must see sights, selling the top quality local fruit, veg. and seafood that will grace the tables of the city's best restaurants later that night. So where better than La Boqueria to go for lunch, where you can combine taking macabre photos of sheep heads and still wriggling eels and lobsters, with tasting the best ingredients in Spain at their freshest. That's exactly the draw of El Quim's kiosk restaurant in the heart of the market. Pull up a stool and let the eponymous Quim rustle up trademark dishes such as cigrons amb cloïsses (Catalan for chickpeas with clams) and xipirons amb mongetes de Santa Pau (baby squid with white beans). It's not the cheapest place in town but for fresh Catalan cuisine and tapas you can't go far wrong. Check our guide to dining out in Barcelona for more restaurant options.

Nile Guide
Smack bang in the middle of the bustling Boqueria market, lies this small tapas bar. A favorite among the locals, it is known for its fabulous Catalonian breakfast offerings. Mouth-watering fare like Tortillas, Sautéed Squid (with garlic, olive oil and eggs) and Lamb Strips (in dark beer) and lots more are available at reasonable prices. So grab one of the 18 seats available and enjoy your drink and Chef Quim Márquez Durán's delicious offerings.
